Story of this Art:
In the shadowed folds of the Blind Eternities, where mana bleeds like mist and thought becomes flesh, there was once a dragon unlike any other—Nekrathis, the Dreaming Rift. Born not of flame or storm, but of raw æther, Nekrathis was said to have hatched from the tear left behind when a planeswalker’s spark imploded. Where other dragons burned with fire, his veins coursed with the pulsing chaos of the multiverse itself.

This is the Eye of Nekrathis, an image whispered to be conjured by mages who sought to understand the creature’s nature. The eye blazes with unnatural hues: a storm of luminous violet and searing magenta, twisting like living lightning beneath a translucent membrane. Each branching tendril of energy writhes outward from the pupil—a vertical slit of endless void—as though reality itself is fracturing at its core. Around it, the scaled ridges are carved in tones of deep amethyst, rough and ancient, glowing faintly with the residue of dimensional power.

The Eye was first recorded by the Dimir seers of Ravnica, who claimed that when it opened in their dreams, they could hear the hum of worlds colliding. Nekrathis did not speak, but his gaze was a promise—a vision of unraveling realms and mana torn from its roots. It was said that to look into his eye too long was to lose one’s identity, to be rewritten as a fragment of his endless dreaming.

When the Planar Bridge first opened, some claimed to have seen this same violet fire flicker in the void between planes, as though Nekrathis still slumbered, coiled around the heart of the Multiverse. His followers, the Cult of the Riftborn, believe that one day he will awaken fully, and in doing so, tear open the barriers between all planes—melding existence into one infinite, ever-shifting nightmare.

The Eye remains as a warning and a relic—a glimpse into the heart of a dragon that is not bound by fire or flesh, but by the madness of mana itself, forever dreaming in colors the mind was never meant to see.
